HBO have released the first details on one of five Game Of Thrones prequel spin-offs in the pipeline.

The network announced on Friday (June 8) they had commissioned a pilot for an untitled series from George RR Martin and Kick Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman, which will chart the Age Of Heroes.

The official description reads: ‘Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game Of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age Of Heroes into its darkest hour.

‘And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.’

Goldman is set to act as showrunner on the series, with Martin acting as executive producer along with Daniel Zelman and Game Of Thrones producer Vince Gerardis.

The Age Of Heroes, in GOT lore, began with the pact which brought about peace between the First Men and the Children Of The Forest at the end of the Dawn Age.

Certain ‘heroes’ in the age include Bran the Builder and Lann the Clever, whose descendants essentially helped found House Stark and House Lannister.

The period is also strongly tied with the Long Night, an intense Winter which lasted an entire generation pitting the Westeros population in a battle against the undead.

Jane Goldman previously spoke to Metro.co.uk about meeting George RR Martin for the first time, describing him as a ‘lovely’ and ‘brilliant’ man.

Game Of Thrones’ final season is expected to launch in 2019.
