HBO is plugging away at the pilot for Blood Moon, its Game of Thrones prequel series, over in Northern Ireland. But like its parent show, Blood Moon will be filmed in different places around the world, including at the Grotta del Turco — a picturesque split in a rocky coastline — near the town of Gaeta, Italty:

I’m sure we can imagine all manner of uses for such a beautiful location, but it might be of greater interest to people when the series is going to shoot there. Any potential Italian extras reading? Because according to local outlet Il Messaggero, the production will be in the area from July 11-16, the end of next week through the beginning of the week after.

Based on some of the props we’ve glimpsed behind the scenes, my guess is that the Grotta del Turco will stand in for none other than…Casterly Rock, the home base of the Lannister family…or at least it will be. Blood Moon is set thousands of years before Game of Thrones, presumably back when the Casterlys actually owned Casterly Rock. A figure called Lann the Clever winkled it away from them using trickery and deceit, something for which Lann’s ancestors also have a gift. Will we see that story play out onscreen?

I don’t know, but if anybody plans on sniffing around the Grotta del Turco on these days they may find out. Spoiler-hunting habits die hard.
