Let's simplify: Young Hodor saw Bran (Raven Bran) and saw his own death, which gave him PTSD, he always knew he was going to have to "hold the door" and he would die holding the door. Necessary sacrifices for the messianic figure, Bran.

I don't think Bran can mess with the past. They 3 Eyed Raven specifically said, ''the past has already written, the ink is dry'' in the previous episode. Nothing Bran do in the past will change the future, in my opinion.

The saddest part of Hodor's death was that he died alone. Kept looking into the distance, and at the end it was only him left. Absolutely respect you not breaking down in tears, I didn't either, and honestly, if my boyfriend hadn't said "Wait! THAT'S why he keeps saying 'Hodor', 'Hold the door' you know!?" I wouldn't have gotten in the first time.

We are all different people, all reacting to the same show, same episode, same moment. It's really fine, I mean, gosh, imagine if we were all the same, what a boring sobfest. lol you guys are usually the best at explaining stuff to her… but you completely butchered that explanation XD she seemed even more confused! you should just have told her the basics, that Bran went to the past and fucked hodor up (so that she for sure got why he only said hodor) and from there, let her draw her own conclusion of what she saw. that would have made it easier imo!

This was the most soul crushing episode of the series. First having to deal with the fact that Hodor is going to make the ultimate sacrifice to save Bran, and then the realization that we're watching the moment Wylis becomes Hodor. I went from tearing up to openly sobbing. Don't think I could go to sleep until like 3 a.m. that night.

Hogwarts didn't even notice at 6:04 Summer died!! It looked like a usual episode… till the end.

The idea is from the moment in the courtyard, Hodor foresaw his own death and knew it was coming at that moment in the tree.

I thought she would lose it hardcore on this one. Obviously all the deaths have made you jaded, cuz I cried even just re-watching the scene for at least the 10th time. And to think George had that all planned ahead from the very beginning.

bran normally wargs into things when he's near them, in person.  he wasn't actually there, only his consciousness was there.  so, his consciousness 'only' warged into hodor, and it was just too much strain.  like a double whammy.  bran handled it because he's a beast, but hodor was a simpleton to begin with.  Its like being double warged I think, it'd fuck anyone up.

Watching this and I'm crying all over again. Hodor 🙁

You guys couldn't have done any worse at explaining what happened to Hodor. Its simple, Bran warged older Hodor while Bran was in the past, he used Young Hodor to reach older Hodor and warg. Causing young Hodor to experience the entire event, driving him mad in a way. All he could say was the last thing he heard, the reason for his death…To Hold the door.

He double warged. He warged into young Hodor's mind then warged from there into future Hodor's mind bringing young Hodor along for the terrible ride.

No such thing as IDEAL in game of thrones ! no black and white … people experience different things and acts in a way they understand and that's what Sansa was doing ! Can we stop saying Sansa and dany etc are messing up there is such a thing as a strategy in times of war lol!

the first time I'v watched this I was totally brainfucked by the way how hodor became hodor.. and that his "name" had a deep meaning from the beginning… then the stark theme kicked in when we saw him die and I had to burst in tears… I don't know.. it was kind of hypnotic if u know what I mean. first the brainfuck – then programed: cry!!!

Most straight forward explanation: Bran warged into Willis while he was warged into Holdor. So when Holdor died his younger self saw his own death and it sent him crazy so that he could only say Holdor (Hold the door) from that day forward until the death he had forseen.

Ive been waiting for this one! I already knew Game of Thrones was the best thing i have ever seen but after this episode it put it into another category for me alone. Time loops.. Have you guys heard that theory that Bran went back and was there for Ned's death? Like the last thing Ned saw was Bran, that's why (according to the theory) after he looks up and out into the crowd he calms down and seems resigned and then puts his head down.
