Game of Thrones isn’t over yet, as two successor series have already been green-lit by HBO. HBO previously commissioner five showrunners to work individually with George R.R. Martin to develop five different successor series of Game of Thrones. However, only two new series from the Westeros, Bloodmoon, and House of the Dragon have been green-lit from the network.

House of the Dragon, will serve as the prequel of HBO blockbuster Game of Thrones, which is set roughly 300 years before the events of parent series. The series will tell the story of the royal line of House Targaryen—the same royal line that includes Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen. Ryan Condal will serve as the showrunner and work with George R.R. Martin to develop the second prequel after Bloodmoon.

HBO ordered straight to series of House of the Dragon on October 29, 2019. Miguel Sapochnik joined Ryan Condal to serve as the showrunner of the upcoming prequel, while Martin will serve as executive producer together with Vince Gerardis. Martin created a new book apart from the original seven novels in the epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The new book called Fire and Blood is the first one from a two-part volume that tells the history of House Targaryen.

The upcoming 10-episode series will include the story arc from Fire and Blood. Since House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen, Emilia Clark is likely to reprise her role. Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow has always been close to Emilia Clark’s Daenerys Targaryen, he may return as well. HBO confirmed in January 2020 that the new prequel series will arrive by 2022. HBO also confirmed that the writing process for the upcoming series has started.

House of the Dragon isn’t the only show coming to HBO in the near future. A prequel set roughly 10, 000 years ago in the Age of Heroes will also debut in the network. HBO confirmed that Jane Goldman will serve showrunner, while John Simm and Naomi Watts will star. George R.R. Martin even claimed that Bloodmoon is in pre-production.
