Game of Thrones’ first prequel House of The Dragon has already caused a huge stir amongst all the fans around the globe. The upcoming series based on the Dance of The Dragons focuses on a civil war that nearly destroyed Westeros prior to the events of Game of Thrones. HBO has already added the key players to the acting roster, hyping up the fans even more.
House of the Dragon will have a more traditional writers room. Ryan Condal, the creator of the sci-fi show Colony and an old buddy of George R.R. Martin’s, will serve as showrunner. The rank-and-file writing staff will include playwright Claire Kiechel, Colony writer Wes Tooke, and George R.R. Martin’s former writing assistant Ti Mikkel. The 100 screenwriter Charmaine DeGraté will be the latest addition to the team.

The Game of Thrones prequel’s writers’ room is majorly female. That’s a change from Game of Thrones, where it was all male. Jane Espenson and Vanessa Taylor worked on scripts in seasons 1 and 2 but weren’t part of the permanent room. The original show was sometimes criticized for the way it handled female characters. It’s good to hear there will be some more perspective in the room.
Game of Thrones star Gemma Whelan often felt the show changed the way women were represented on-screen. Do you think this step would change the direction of House of The Dragon? Talk to us in the comments below!
