Vikings star Travis Fimmel rumoured to join Game of Thrones prequel (Picture: Rex)

The Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has got people talking about who will join the cast of the fantasy franchise, and it looks as though Vikings star Travis Fimmel is the name on everyone’s lips.

While nothing has been confirmed, fans have started to lose their minds over the recent rumours that the Ragnar Lothbrok actor is in talks to join the line-up.

According to a report by Portuguese entertainment website, Torre De Vigilancia, the 41-year-old is in the running Prince Daemon Targaryen – the younger brother of King Viserys Targaryen.

And as always, the speculation appeared in a thread on Reddit with fans already in full support of the potential casting.

‘Travis being involved in any way would be amazing,’ one wrote while another said: ‘He’s an amazing actor and he could have the role of any Targaryen character. I like the idea.’

Someone else agreed, adding: ‘Actually it can be great.. not how I imagined Daemon, but still could be something new and exciting.’

Others thought he’d be better suited as Aemond One Eye, although Aemond is just 20 in the original series Fire and Blood, written by George R.R. Martin.

Prince Daemon Targaryen was rarely acknowledged by his brother as the heir to the Iron Throne, forcing him to craft his own kingdom on the Narrow Sea.

He was crowned King of the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea by his close friend Lord Corlys Velaryon.

He’s a skilled warrior and good with a sword, making Travis the perfect fit after attending Viking school.

Rumours started to swirl back in February when the fan site Winter is Coming put together their dream cast for the HBO hit, with Travis’s name appear alongside Daemon.

So, we guess it’s just a waiting game to see who will take on the role, as casting is already underway.

Just recently, HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed the series is still on track for a 2022 release, despite the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Knife Edge Media, a call was put out for the three leads Aegon, Visenya and Rhaenys Targaryen. There has been no mention of Daemon.

The prequel is set 300 years before Game of Thrones and will take a deep dive into the origins of the Targaryen Dynasty.

House of the Dragon is set to air on HBO 2022. While Metro.co.uk has reached out to Travis Fimmel’s reps for further comment.
