House Of The Dragon star Emily Carey found an unusual source of comfort to deal with the ‘overwhelming’ reaction to her performance in the series.
The star, who plays a young Alicent Hightower in the Game Of Thrones spin-off, will depart the series following the release of episode five this week.
The sixth episode of the show will involve a 10-year time jump, with Alicent being portrayed by Olivia Cooke.
Fans will also say goodbye to Rhaenyra Targaryen actress Milly Alcock in favour of her older counterpart, Emma D’Arcy.
Since its premiere, the series has gained plenty of traction online with fans discussing every detail of each episode, from its most shocking moments to theories on what will happen next.
And to cope with the reaction from the fanbase, Emily has found comfort in a classic toy: Lego.
‘Inside these four walls of my little flat, nothing has changed,’ she told Elle.
‘I went out to buy sweet potatoes yesterday. It was the first time I’d left the house since the show had come out, had a mask on, was picking up a reusable produce bag and filling it with sweet potatoes, and someone was like, “I love House of Dragon!” And I was like, “Oh, cool.” I kind of forget that I’m in it, I guess.’
She said that she is reminded constantly of her starring role whenever she switches on her TV or uses social media.
‘On buses and billboards, I step outside my house, and the bus stop is like, House of the Dragon. It’s overwhelming. It’s intense. I’ve been building a lot of Lego to cope,’ she continued.
Emily also revealed she would love to return to the series, but is unsure whether it would ever happen due to the top secret nature of production.
The star said that the cast was not allowed hard copies of scripts and that everything was on iPads in a bid to keep any details of the show under wraps.
Emily and Milly’s performances in the series have been lauded, and described as the ‘biggest reason House of the Dragon has been so good’ by some fans.
‘They will be missed, but their impact is truly felt. Bravo,’ one fan wrote on Twitter about the talented pair.
‘Y’all can we please take a sec to give a round of applause to Milly Alcock & Emily Carey?’ someone else wrote.
Ahead of episode five dropping, Milly shared a heartfelt post on Instagram marking the milestone, the first picture of which showed her and Emily sharing a tight hug on set.
‘The last hurrah for us youngerz on @houseofthedragonhbo tonight. “The road ahead is uncertain, but the end is clear,”’ she wrote in the caption.
The trailer for the sixth episode of the series, set to be released next week, teases rising tensions between Rhaenyra and Alicent.
The pair are seen in disagreement during a tense King’s Council meeting, revealing both have gained a seat at the high table.
The trailer also shows a new generation of characters as King Viserys and Alicent’s son, Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), is all grown up, and Rhaenyra and an adult Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell) are pictured with children of their own.
House Of The Dragon is available to stream on NOW.
