Ahead of the House Of The Dragon premiere, it’s now been revealed what author George RR Martin requested be included in the show.

Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal who will be at the helm of the Game of Thrones prequel, have said there were three things George wanted to appear in the adaptation of his book Fire and Blood.

First, Miguel said George wanted one huge mistake he felt happened during Game of Thrones to be rectified.

He said: ‘David [Benioff] and Dan [D.B Weiss] and skipped over Jaehaerys [Targaryen] for reasons of clarity that he really didn’t understand.

‘He had a bee in his bonnet about it. He wanted us to right that wrong.’

George’s other requests revolved around colour, asking that the dragons in the season were more colourful and there was an emphasis on bright heraldry.

In Game Of Thrones, Daenerys Targaryen’s three dragons – Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal – each had distinctive black, green, and gold colouring as young dragons, but as they grew this changed to a subtle hue in their scales, whereas George believes the dragon’s colours should remain distinct.

He also asked that House Of The Dragon included lots of colour to symbolise each of the houses on the show.

‘It’s such a time of high decadence and peace and wealth and prosperity for the realm,’ Ryan said.

‘Everybody would really festoon themselves in their house colours and be proud of them as they marched into the tournament.’

House Of The Dragon will be the first in a number of planned spin-off series to arrive from HBO – including one focused on Jon Snow – offering a deeper dive into the history and mythology of Martin’s creation.

Set 300 years before the events of Game Of Thrones, House Of The Dragon will follow the Targaryen family history, starting right at the formation of Westeros.

The series has a star-studded cast including Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, and Graham McTavish.

The first trailer arrived in October 2021, providing the first ominous look at Westeros’ past.

House of the Dragon will premiere on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW on August 22 2022.
