New footage has been released of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, with a brief clip showing Olivia Cooke attacking someone in spine-chilling scenes.

Excitement is rife for the upcoming fantasy series, which will star Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy and Paddy Considine as members of the ruling Targaryen clan in a tale set 200 years before the original show.

In a new teaser for all the drama coming to HBO Max in the US in 2022, various clips were shown of House of the Dragon – with one revealing a close look at Olivia’s character, Lady Alicent Hightower.

Alicent will be introduced as the daughter of the Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), who has close links to the monarch’s inner circle in King’s Landing.

In the short scene unveiled in the teaser, Alicent is seen rushing forward with a dagger despite being surrounded by people.

While the scene has been hinted at in a previous trailer, here we have an extended look, showing the young member of court about to make her attack.

Alicent lifts up the weapon before the camera cuts away, sparking speculation among fans as to who she may be aiming to stab.

Some believe the scene could be taken from George RR Martin’s book Fire and Blood.

In the tale, Alicent is married to King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy), but she has a rivalry with Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma), his daughter.

Alicent’s son, Aemond, loses an eye during an altercation with Rhaenyra’s three sons, resulting in Alicent calling for one of Rhaenyra’s sons to suffer the same fate.

Whether the storyline will unfold in the same way in live-action is currently unclear.

Other members of the cast joining Olivia in House of the Dragon include Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria and Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Col.

In addition to House of the Dragon, the HBO trailer also teased the releases of other shows including Westworld, Peacemaker and the third season of His Dark Materials.

During an interview earlier this year, Game of Thrones star Kit Harington admitted that he would find it difficult to watch the spin-off.

‘It’s my good friend Miguel [Sapochnik] who’s show-running it, I’ve got a friend Matt in it, so I’m looking forward to it but it’s gonna be hard,’ he said.

‘I’ve got a huge emotional connection to that piece, to that story, to that world.’

House of the Dragon is due to air on HBO Max and Sky Atlantic in 2022.
