As House of the Dragon continues filming across multiple locations, more details are emerging about the battles that will shape Season 3. Recent reports suggested that filming wrapped on sequences tied to the Butcher’s Ball, an event heavily tied to Ser Criston Cole’s storyline. Now, new updates reveal that another major confrontation will arrive much earlier in the season than expected.

As we know, Episode 1 is set to open with the Battle of the Gullet, the largest and bloodiest naval battle of the Dance of the Dragons, directed by showrunner Ryan Condal. Strikingly, Episode 2 will not slow down the momentum, as it will feature the infamous Battle by the Lakeshore, also known as the “Fishfeed,” one of the deadliest land battles of the Civil War. Director Clare Kilner, who previously helmed key episodes of House of the Dragon’s first season, will direct this pivotal sequence.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 2 will feature the Battle of the Lakeshore

House of the Dragon continues its trend of bringing George R.R. Martin’s most brutal battles to life. Episode 2 of Season 3 is set to bring the Battle by the Lakeshore, better known as the “Fishfeed,” onto the screen — so named because the carnage was so immense that bodies drifted into the waters and filled its shores.

The report comes from the @housethedragons X account, revealing that director Clare Kilner will return for this major episode.

Kilner, who previously directed standout Season 1 episodes such as “King of the Narrow Sea,” “We Light the Way,” and “The Green Council,” is known for marrying character drama with sweeping visuals.

Leaks suggest Jason Lannister will be part of the battle

According to the source, one especially dramatic moment will show Lord Roderick Dustin, also called “Roddy the Ruin,” tossing Lord Jason Lannister’s severed head to Daemon Targaryen, while pledging his fealty to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. Dustin, a member of the Winter Wolves — one of the northern forces sent south by Lord Cregan Stark to fight for the Blacks — will make this gesture of loyalty.

In the books, Lord Jason Lannister actually dies during the Battle of the Red Fork, killed by Pate of Longleaf, and the battle sees the Lannister host devastated, while the Black side also suffers massive losses. This leak suggests the show might condense or reassign those events: in Martin’s chronicles, Daemon is not present at the Fishfeed. How these changes will play out will be seen when the episode airs. Given Clare Kilner’s track record for visual fidelity and emotional weight, many fans anticipate that she will elevate this sequence.

In Westerosi lore, Fishfeed is remembered as the bloodiest land battle of the Dance of the Dragons, fought along the shores of the God’s Eye lake near Harrenhal. Tens of thousands — both Greens and Blacks — died, and the Lannister army was essentially destroyed. With the death of Jason, the balance of power in the war could shift dramatically. Ironically, in the episode just before, his twin brother Tyland is expected to fight in the naval Battle of the Gullet — a divergence from the books whose consequences remain unclear.
