Here’s where you know the new Targaryen clan (Picture: Metro.co.uk)

Game Of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated new series coming out – and we’re not even going to see it until 2022.

The cast is already well on its way, with several key players being announced and some recognisable faces joining the world of Westeros.

So where would we have met them before?

While we sit and wait patiently for some new information, we can at least take a look back at some of previous work from the new Targaryen family to tide us over.

In fact, the cast members announced so far have us completely covered – from comedy to sci-fi through to a good old historical reimagining.

Here’s what you can binge watch in the meantime…

Paddy Considine

Paddy Considine was the first official member of the cast announced, and will play King Viserys Targaryen.

He is chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal, and is warm, kind, and decent man.

Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but ‘good men do not necessarily make for great kings’, the synopsis warns.

Paddy has been in a series of highly acclaimed shows and roles, including Peaky Blinders, Hot Fuzz, and Pride.

Most recently, he appeared alongside Jude Law in Sky’s The Third Day.

Matt Smith

Matt Smith’s breakthrough role was as the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who, and still makes guest appearances for fan events as the favourite.

After that, he became the first incarnation of Prince Phillip in seasons one and two of The Crown, before being replaced in a time jump by Tobias Menzies.

Other roles have included playing serial killer Charles Manson in Charlie Says, and roles in films including Patient Zero, Terminator Genisys and His House.

He will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of Viserys – a ‘peerless warrior’ who ‘possesses the true blood of the dragon’.

Olivia Cooke

British actress Olivia Cooke appeared on TV mini-series The Secret of Crickley Hall for the BBC and Blackout when she was 19.

However her breakthrough role was the smash-hit indie movie Me, Earl and The Dying Girl in 2015 – which set her on the path for Hollywood.

Since then, she was a series regular on Psycho prequel series Bates Motel, appeared in The Limehouse Golem and led the cast as Becky Sharp in last year’s ITV period drama, Vanity Fair.

In 2018, she starred in Stephen Speilberg’s Ready Player One as well.

For House Of The Dragon, she will play Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King who, while not born a Targaryen, is closely connected to those who reign.

Emma D’Arcy

Emma has a handful of credits to her name – but they’re all pretty impressive.

Her first major TV role was in 2018, joining Toni Collette and Zawe Ashton in Wanderlust, a series about a woman reevaluating her marriage.

Next up she appeared as Sonia Richter in two episodes of Hanna, the Amazon Prime Video series adaptation of the movie.

Earlier this year, she became a paranormal investigator as she joined Nick Frost in his action comedy series, Truth Seekers.

She’ll now play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, a fierce dragon rider who, in the books, was destined to become the first Queen of Westeros.

However her claim was challenged by Aegon II Targaryen, sparking the Dance Of Dragons civil war.

When is Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon being released?

House Of The Dragon has announced that production will begin in 2021.

They have since confirmed that the series is slated for release in 2022.

This is in large part due to the expected scale of the series, and the unplanned lockdown of production caused by coronavirus, starting in March 2020.

Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon will air in 2022 on HBO.
