*Warning: Contains spoilers for the first three episodes of House of the Dragon.*
House of the Dragon, the Targaryen-focused prequel to Game of Thrones, is going from strength to strength as each new episode is released.
The number of positive reviews is only increasing and last night’s episode, Second of His Name, is set to be the highest-rated episode so far on IMDb.
In the latest episode, Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) faced off against Crabfeeder (Daniel Scott-Smith), while King Viserys (Paddy Considine) embarked on a royal hunt.
During that hunt for baby Aegon’s nameday, a familiar surname from Game of Thrones made its first appearance in House of the Dragon: House Lannister has arrived.
One particular Lannister caught the eyes of viewers – but where does he fit in the Lannister family tree, and where might fans have seen actor Jefferson Hall before?
How does Jason Lannister relate to Cersei?
Jason is currently the Lord of Casterly Rock – the title that Tywin Lannister held when he was first introduced to Game of Thrones.
One conversation with Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) reveals that Jason intends to marry her one day – a realisation that Rhaenyra does not take kindly to.
Jason is a typically confident Lannister, speaking of his family’s great wealth and the size of Casterly Rock, even gifting Viserys a large spear.
He has a twin brother, Tyland, who is much meeker in spirit. We see Jason and Tyland together during a feast at the king’s hunt.
There are missing pieces to the Lannister family tree, but Cersei is believed to be Jason’s great-great-great-great-great-great granddaughter (six generations).
Who plays Jason and Tyland?
Twins Jason and Tyland are both played by British actor Jefferson Hall – with such huge contrasts between their respective natures, Jefferson clearly has range.
The 44-year-old actor first appeared on screen in 2005, at the age of 27, in the football crime film Green Street, which also starred Elijah Wood.
His other credits in film include Sherlock Homes, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Christopher Nolan’s 2020 film Tenet.
On TV, Jefferson has (like almost every other British actor) appeared on both hospital dramas Casualty and Holby City.
He has also appeared in Alex Garland’s sci-fi thriller series Devs, but one appearance in particular has caught the eyes of House of the Dragon fans.
Have we seen Jason’s actor before?
Jefferson Hall actually did make an appearance in Game of Thrones, in the very earliest days of the show.
He appeared as Ser Hugh of the Vale in the very first season, when Ned Stark was sent to ask him about Hand of the King Jon Arryn’s death.
Ser Hugh then takes part in a tournament to celebrate Ned’s arrival to King’s Landing, but is brutally killed by a splintered lance.
He battles Ser Gregor Clegane, The Mountain, in a joust, but is mortally wounded when a splinter lodges itself into his neck, killing him almost instantly.
Fans are pleased to see Jefferson back in the world of Westeros, and many are hoping that he will continue to appear as House of the Dragon carries on.
House of The Dragon is available to stream on NOW.
