The world of Game of Thrones has expanded beyond petty fights for the Iron Throne. While House of the Dragon shed light on one of the most fierce and deadly dynasties of Westeros, the Targaryens, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is bringing more realistic stories to the forefront. With the adventures of Dunk and Egg, the series, set a hundred years before Game of Thrones, is making the most of humane perspectives.

Don’t be fooled, the series is still influenced by the mighty Targaryens and will certainly shape their future as seen in Game of Thrones. However, as far as the past of this family goes, we will see the crucial elements and lore-heavy aspects based on the Targaryens in upcoming seasons of House of the Dragon.

As much as fans have loved and fawned over the characters of House of the Dragon, they will have to gear up to say goodbye to the show soon. While we are still awaiting a final release date on the third season, HBO has confirmed House of the Dragon will end after season 4.

Amidst the gruelling creative differences and constant disagreements between George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, fans believed that the show will suffer the brunt of it. However, HBO chief has confirmed in an interview with Deadline that this is not the case.

The show is coming to a natural end because the story of the Targaryens is wrapping up by the end of the fourth season. Viewers will learn everything they need to so that understanding the actions of the characters in Game of Thrones makes sense. While confirming that season 4 will be the last in the series, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, Casey Bloys, said,

“Yes, that is the idea. The idea has always been to follow the history of the Targaryens. If you know the books, you know how the Targaryens end up. So there is a natural end to this particular history of that House of the Targaryens.”

Though the lengthy books indicate that there is a lot to cover before going into the events of Game of Thrones, it can also be perceived that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms might bridge some gaps.

Since season 3 will eventually showcase the much-awaited Dance of the Dragons, fans are excited to see how the story pans out on screen. The two branches of the Targaryen family tree are already at odds with each other, with the hunger to rule over Westeros ever-increasing.

Bloys also confirmed that Condal is giving it all to realize the potential of the upcoming seasons, making them as amazing as possible.

House of the Dragon season 3 will have 8 episodes and is likely to premiere by June 2026.
