The prequel to Game of Thrones has wrapped up filming, and House of the Dragon will be with us before we know it.
The HBO series is arguably one of the most highly anticipated projects of 2022, after filming began way back in April last year.
The series explores a brutal Targaryen civil war that tore Westeros apart around 300 years before the original series took place.
While an exact release date is yet to be revealed, we can rest assured that the production team are working night and day to put something awesome together in post-production following a 10-month filming process.
Cast are not usually on set for the entire shoot, unlike crew members who have been sharing their goodbye messages to the series on social media after filming came to an end.
All we have so far are exciting teaser videos for the upcoming fantasy series, one of which offered a spine-chilling previews of a dramatic scene with Olivia Cooke attacking someone with a dagger.
Her character, Lady Alicent Hightower, will be introduced as the daughter of the Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), who has connections with the monarch’s inner circle in King’s landing.
The cast will also star former Doctor Who icon Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy and Paddy Considine as members of the ruling Targaryen clan.
Other actors joining House of the Dragon are Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria and Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Col.
During an interview earlier this year, Game of Thrones star Kit Harington admitted that he would find it difficult to watch the spin-off.
‘It’s my good friend Miguel [Sapochnik] who’s show-running it, I’ve got a friend Matt in it, so I’m looking forward to it but it’s gonna be hard,’ he said.
‘I’ve got a huge emotional connection to that piece, to that story, to that world.’
Meanwhile, Peter Dinklage – who played Tyrion Lannister – in GoT, has actually issued a warning to HBO, advising them not to just ‘recreate’ the original series.
‘That feels like a money grab,’ he told The Independent.
‘With a lot of sequels, the reason for them is that the first one made a lot of money, which is why they aren’t as strong.’
Only time will tell how House of the Dragon will be received, but since it’s been three years since Game of Thrones aired its final episode, we’re looking forward to venturing back into the mythical world.
House of The Dragon is coming to HBO Max in the US and NOW in the UK in 2022.
