Following the huge revelation in the season seven finale of Jon Snow’s parentage, you may be left scratching your head as to how exactly the King Of The North and Daenerys Targaryen are related.
12 things we learned about Strictly Come Dancing 2017 from its celebrities
In The Dragon And The Wolf, it was finally confirmed Jon Snow is the legitimate son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen who married in secret – with Jon’s real name actually being Aegon Targaryen.
So how are Daenerys and Jon…er, Aegon related? Let’s break it down.
Daenerys is the youngest living child of the Mad King, Aerys II. He was the last Targaryen king of Westeros, who was stabbed in the back by bodyguard Jaime Lannister before being replaced by King Robert Baratheon.
Aerys was the father to three children, Rhaegar, Viserys and Daenerys.
As revealed in season 7 episode 5, Rhaegar had his marriage annulled to Elia Martell (Prince Oberyn’s sister), which allowed him to marry Lyanna Stark in a secret ceremony in Dorne. Nine months later, Lyanna gave birth to his baby.
This baby is actually Aegon Targaryen aka Jon Snow, who thanks to their secret marriage, is now their legitimate son and rightful heir to the throne.
After Jon/Aegon’s birth, back on Dragonstone Daenerys’ mother, Rhaella, gave birth to the Mother Of Dragons, with Varys smuggling her and brother Viserys across the sea to Pentos.
So if this wasn’t all quite processing, Daenerys is Rhaegar’s baby sister, which means Daenerys is actually Jon Snow’s dragon-riding aunt.
So that scene in the season seven finale where Jon and Dany are getting jiggy on a boat? Slightly awkward.
