It seems like some true fans of the Game of Thrones universe are still not over the heartbreak caused by the fumbled finale. Viewers got so invested and immersed in the Westerosi world that it was hard to watch the characters meet their fate in such a mishandled manner. This prevalent emotion, however, is not shared by Kit Harington, our beloved Jon Snow.

After the finale of Game of Thrones premiered, an online petition began floating around that urged HBO and showrunners to remake the last season altogether. What was once a majestic story of ambition, betrayal, and cut-throat competition was turned into a rush-job of surface level characters and disjointed narrative.

Despite knowing the widespread dislike for the finale season, makers refused to recreate the show’s ending. And Kit Hartington agrees with that decision. Ahead of the release of his upcoming show, Industry, Harington spoke to The New York Times where he shared how sad he was to see the outrage over Game of Thrones season 8.

“That genuinely angered me. Like, how dare you? Sorry, that’s just how I feel. I think it was a level of idiocy that can only come about through social media.”

Harington witnessed how hard the writers and showrunners worked to get the finale on air, and refused to discredit their work. The actor stands by the team that gave the show their all. If fans are dissatisfied by the story, then that’s not on the actors or showrunners.

Jon Snow spinoff starring Kit Harington also never took off

Perhaps HBO thought giving fans a spinoff on Jon Snow’s life after the Game of Thrones finale would offer some closure. But in the end, the story never panned out. Harington shared that nothing exciting came out of the discussions and they decided to drop the idea.

It was better after all to shelve the spinoff rather than give viewers another half-baked story that could not trigger the same enthusiasm. There are many stories to pursue in the Westeros universe, and it might be worthwhile to focus on them rather than rehashing old character arcs.
