Jason Momoa is building up to the premiere of his upcoming Apple+ series, See. Apple is going all out with their PR for this one, and hopes are high for the dystopian thriller. It’ll premiere on Nov 1, the same day as the streaming service drops. See is set about 600 years in the future, when humanity has lost the ability to see. When Momoa’s children are born with sight, it causes quite a stir.
You’re intrigued already, aren’t you? I know I am. And Apple is spending a boatload on the series, nearly $15 per episode. Check out the trailer to see what that looks like:
Apple TV+ execs Jamie Erlicht and Zack van Amburg talked with Emmy Magazine about See, and made some pretty lofty comparisons. “Can it be as epic as, say, a Game of Thrones? We answer that question early on with a resounding yes!”
Okay, Apple, we see you.
So what do See and Game of Thrones have in common? The production values are obviously a part of it. And then there’s the fantasy angle. Game of Thrones wasn’t a dystopian series, but the shows can share a sense of the mythic, the fantastical. Game of Thrones veteran Jason Momoa is another connection. He seems the perfect guy to play a brave warlord.
And who knows? Maybe a dragon will pop up! If only the characters could see it.
The production team on See was dedicated to keeping things as authentic as possible. This meant hiring actors who were actually blind or had limited sight. Actors who had full use of their vision were extensively trained on how to act and behave as a blind person would. Naturally, Momoa went above and beyond:
Jason was a prime example. Navigation was a big part of the show, and he was constantly devising new ways to move. He might be wearing a long robe and throw it out like a whip in front of him to guide him. Sometimes he might be carrying an axe, and slide it out in front like a walking stick. If he was walking by water, he’d kick some so others could follow the splash.
Sounds like fans could be in for a treat. Hopefully it’ll make the $4.99 per month price for Apple TV+ tag worth it.
And if you’re in the market to buy a new iPhone or any other Apple device, you’ll get a free month of Apple TV+ goodness! You’ll also get a free month if you buy the Emmy Magazine issue with See co-stars Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodward on the cover.
