Daenerys Targaryen is about to meet the family. As teased in earlier promotional teases, Daenerys will be touching foot in Winterfell in Game of Thrones Season 8. Thus, meeting Jon Snow’s family. Emilia Clarke explained the impact she felt when Dany finally met the Starks, saying:
It is tough to imagine what Emilia Clarke felt. Thankfully, she offered some insight. For so long, Game of Thrones has split its time between its far-spread characters. Now most of them will be in the same place for the first time. As Clarke told Harper’s Bazaar, it is all a bit surreal.
Seeing Daenerys interact with Sansa in the teaser was a spectacular sort of strange. Even though she is on the same show, Emilia Clarke has never gotten a chance to be at Winterfell. Eight seasons in and there is still room for new travels.
Finally seeing Dany step inside Winterfell in that teaser was huge. She was greeted in interesting fashion by Sansa Stark, who seemed skeptical of her brother’s new girlfriend. Continuing, Emilia Clarke explained how she felt about Daenerys chatting with Sansa for the first time. Clarke said:
It was exhilarating to see! Daenerys Targaryen meeting the Starks is one of the most anticipated events of Game of Thrones‘ final season, personally speaking. So much has led up to it. To see Daenerys at Winterfell cohabiting with the Starks is going to be magnificent to behold. Besides the inevitable chills, it could even be a bit tear-jerking.
Fans already got a sneak peek at how things are going to unfold between Daenerys and Sansa. The latter does not seem like the Mother of Dragons’ biggest fan, at least so far. In Season 7, Sansa urged Jon not to go to Dragonstone to meet with her. Then in the teaser, Sansa seemed to yield to Dany, so her full feelings remain to be seen.
The Mother of Dragons has quite an extensive fan club, so Sansa’s disapproval may not weigh on her too much. However, this is her boyfriend’s family, and she probably wants their support — as much in that relationship as in them accepting her as the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Speaking of which…
Jon already bent the knee to Daenerys, something that may bring tensions between him and his siblings/cousins. Sansa’s reaction to Daenerys is hard to decipher, and the full-length trailer offered no further insight on their dynamic. There are two other living Starks that Game of Thrones has yet to show Dany meeting – Arya and Bran.
Daenerys has a lot in common with both of the Stark sisters, so it will be fun to see how or if a bond develops. What will the Three-Eyed Raven have to say about the Mother of Dragons? There are endless possibilities.
As for Arya, she is one of Jon Snow’s biggest fans. Hence, you can probably expect a bit of scrutiny when it comes to her assessment of his girlfriend. Jon learning that Daenerys is actually his aunt could put an end to her potential concerns.
As always, it is neat to hear someone from the cast reveal they were excited about filming parts of the show. Part of the excitement is seeing the actors who have never worked together all co-starring for the first time. Emilia Clarke sharing the screen with those in the North is going to be nothing shy of thrilling.
Find out how Daenerys Targaryen’s meeting with House Stark goes when Game of Thrones‘ final season premieres. Season 8 starts Sunday, April 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
