How many Golden Globes has HBO’s hit drama Game of Thrones won throughout the show’s entire run?

We’re coming to the end of HBO’s hit drama Game of Thrones (it’s okay to cry about it) and of course with the last season just around the corner, everyone has Game of Thrones on the brain. It’s no wonder that you might be curious how many Golden Globe awards the phenomenal show based on the books by George R.R. Martin may have taken home.

The only Golden Globes win came in 2012 when Peter Dinklage won Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role as Tyrion Lannister. Yes, you heard that right — Game of Thrones has only won one single Golden Globe.

It’s been nominated a handful of times (seven to be exact) but only took home one golden trophy.

The show has been nominated in the Best Television Series – Drama category in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The only other acting nomination came in 2017 when Lena Headey was nominated for her role as Cersei Lannister in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category.

Game of Thrones lack of Golden Globes honors shouldn’t indicate the overall awards of the show, after all the Golden Globes don’t have some of the more intricate awards the show has won honors for through other prestigious award shows like Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie or Special and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program.

The show was snubbed this year around, but it still has a chance to be nominated for its final season, which is set to premiere in April 2019.

The Golden Globe award show airs on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019. Follow along with FanSided Entertainment throughout the night.
