Ewan Mitchell has had some pretty great scenes in House of the Dragon season 2. Albeit Aemond’s arc in this season was splendid, it was Mitchell’s acting prowess that infused new life into his character. From going fully nude on camera to laying the perfect trap for the Blacks, Aemond embraces his main character energy.

However, it’s not always rainbows and roses on a filming set. Actors have a tough time watching themselves to analyze what went wrong or what they can improve upon.

Whether it’s self-consciousness or a bit of self-doubt, we don’t know for sure. Ewan Mitchell recently revealed to Emma D’Arcy in an interview for Hero Magazine how he feels about watching his scenes on screen. When D’Arcy asks him if he has watched House of the Dragon season 2, Mitchell says,

“I do, it takes a good twelve or thirteen times before I can appreciate it. I find it really difficult but I also recognize that I want to know what works and what doesn’t.”

In this case, Mitchell worked towards the same and tried to watch himself. This can further be a mark of a good actor to get over their pet peeves to finally improve in the profession. Mitchell poses the same question to D’Arcy who says,

“No, but I genuinely think it would be helpful if I could stomach it. So much on screen is so technical and because so many factors mediate your performance, it’s reasonable that things might not communicate as you’re imagining. But then I don’t know whether that would be a degree of control that is just not real because we have so little control and fundamentally the narrative will be in the edit.”

Any great actor would have their own way of dealing with a tough scene or even suggesting edits. Mitchell and D’Arcy are standout performers in House of the Dragon. Hence, they are constantly working on themselves to get better with each episode.
