Being one of the biggest TV shows to have ever been produced, Game of Thrones had its fair share of controversies. From the coffee cup gaffe to the highly divided final season, the show is still talked about, though not always in a positive light. Hollywood vet Ian McShane also appeared for a short time in season 6 which gathered a lot of attention. But his comments about the show itself have caused even more stir.
Ian McShane calls fan backlash to his Game of Thrones comment “ridiculous”
During his time on Game of Thrones, McShane attracted vitriol from fans when he described the show as being all about “t**s and dragons”. He recalled the controversy in a recent chat with The Independent,
“It was ridiculous. It was one remark! The creators of the show loved it because it just gives it more publicity. I didn’t even think about it at the time because I’m not on social media. Everybody’s a critic now. Everybody thinks they know best because they can write anonymously on social media.”
Ian McShane once clashed with Rory McCann (Hound) over a burger
In James Hibberd’s book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, Game of Thrones director Mark Mylod talked about a clash between Ian McShane (Brother Ray) and Rory McCann (Sandor Clegane) over a distasteful burger. He said, “He’s [Ian’s] gone down in Game of Thrones crew folklore as being the person who most improved the catering. His lunch was brought up to him and he disliked his burger.”
“So he kicked it and it went flying, and had a few choice words of what he thought of the burger. The burger whacked into Rory, who was enjoying his burger and had no complaints.” However, there was no mention of how Rory reacted to the flying burger.
