Game of Thrones fans love a theory – and the latest one claims that Samwell Tarly is the real Prince That Was Promised.
What’s more, it kind of makes a lot of sense (if you can keep up, that is).
According to Reddit user MrSilenceT, the mystery surrounding the Prince That Was Promised has been cracked, and it’s Samwell, not Jon who is the true Prince.
As Melisandre tries to track down the infamous Prince that Was Promised, fans have been picking their brain over who it could be.
And why would it be the shy and faithful Samwell, who sticks by the rules and hates the battlefield?
A secret member of the Targaryen family, Samwell was born Aegon, the son of Rhaegar and his first wife, Elia Martell.
Sam was taken from his real heritage and given to the Tarly family to be hidden from everyone by Varys after the rebellion of Robert Baratheon.
As he grew up, he developed his father’s love of music and books – and his mother’s heart and wit, but was completely unaware of either.
He was often considered a failure as he was trained and failed to learn how to fight properly.
Now the Game of Thrones comes to a head, it looks like he could be playing the most pivotal role he’s had yet – the final part of the three-headed dragon.
With the collection named The Song of Ice and Fire, it’s long been considered that Daenerys and Jon Snow play the two elements combined.
But assuming that’s true, they’re still missing their third – and it could be Sam.
He could even be writing the Game of Thrones book as the series comes to a close.
(Well…George R.R. Martin is appearing on the show, he could totally be an older Samwell).
Shame we have to wait an entire year to find out…
Game of Thrones returns to TV in 2019.
