After eight long years, HBO’s Game of Thrones will enter its final season on April 14, amid worldwide sadness.
After eight wonderfully brutal, enticing, bloody seasons, HBO’s Game of Thrones is ending.
Ok, now that you’ve stopped crying it’s time to face reality, it could not go on forever. We knew that, of course, but we were blatantly ignoring the fact and hoping it might just never happen.
The last first episode will air on April 14, 2019, and will be followed up by another five episodes before it comes crashing to a (hopefully) dramatic halt.
David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik are all listed as directors for the final season with Benioff & Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill slated for the writer’s table.
We’ll see some of our favorites return for the final season like Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) among many others.
The six-episode series will air as follows:
- April 14, 2019
- April 21, 2019
- April 28, 2019
- May 5, 2019
- May 12, 2019
- May 19, 2019
We were teased with the first photos from the final season just last week and teaser video a few weeks before that, so season eight isn’t a complete surprise, although when it comes to Game of Thrones, nothing is ever what is expected.
Also for those of you who are thinking of canceling your HBO subscription on May 20 … don’t! HBO has already said that it’s working on a spin-off of the famous books by George R.R. Martin, so we won’t be GOT-less for long. Though we don’t have any details on the who, what, where or when we do know it’s happening and that alone holds us together.
In total there are 73 episodes of Game of Thrones over eight seasons … feels like a lifetime doesn’t it?
