Jason Momoa may have played one of the fiercest characters in Game Of Thrones history, but it didn’t stop him from constantly asking for more fight scenes.

Who can blame him? They were pretty epic.

Buster Reeves, who worked as a fight co-ordinator on the beloved fantasy series, explained to Metro.co.uk that working with Jason, who played Khal Drogo, was one of the most memorable moments for him.

‘Jason Momoa was fantastic,’ he pointed out. ‘He was always willing to pick up an axe, he was always like, “Can I have a fight? Can I have a fight onscreen? I really want a fight onscreen! Can I have a fight onscreen?”

‘And I was like, “You’ll have to ask the producers, that’s not to do with me…but I’ll tell you, if you get one, it’ll be cool.”

‘Anyway, he managed to get one and I really wanted to play on his strength as a king, like a big warrior. I had him fight the guy with the scimitar, I had Jason with no weapons, just by the end of it was two knives.

‘I said, “Take your knives out like you’re gonna use them, but drop them on the floor, like this guy is so beneath you that you don’t even need to use them.”

‘He was like “Oh, I love it!” and we ended up having him rip his throat out.’

As you do.

Buster, who went on to appear in The Dark Knight trilogy as Christian Bale and then Tom Hardy’s stunt double, and Jason remained close friends, with the pair becoming training partners.

Oh, to be a part of that workout session.

Jason never had the most standard journey on Game Of Thrones, with showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff revealing that casting the Khal was almost impossible.

‘We had all these auditions and no one was quite right. And then we’re looking at some website that had “Fan Casting of Game of Thrones,”‘ Benioff previously told fans at the Austin Film Festival.

‘A lot of it was kinda knuckleheaded, but some of it was really smart. And there was one person, or maybe a few people, who said, “Oh, it should be this guy Jason Momoa.”

‘And we’d never heard of Jason before — and I apologise to the Baywatch fans — but I haven’t gotten around to it. But I saw a picture of him, we both did, and I thought, “Well, that really does look like Khal Drogo.”‘

Game Of Thrones ended up making Jason a household name, with the star going on to have his own superhero movie, Aquaman.

Game of Thrones is available to stream on NowTV.
