Everyone loves a cliffhanger. We might get an itch to know things beforehand, but there is excitement in watching something unravel with pure uncertainty. Game of Thrones was a series of cliffhangers that led us through eight seasons, always on the edge, finally concluding with the much-debated ending. Another thing that strikes us when we hear that word is the 1993 film, Cliffhanger. Starring Sylvester Stallone, it was an action ride through the mountains that kept us on the edge of our seats till the end. We can now get ready to range the mountains again as a reboot is in the works. It will have a female lead and a cameo by Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones.
The new film started its course last year from Cannes Marché du Film (a global film market), as reported by Deadline. It went underway with Ana Lily Amirpour donning the director’s hat, Sascha Penn writing the script; and Rocket Science and Original Film producing the film. The hunt for a female lead is still on while there seems to be a definite cameo by Jason Momoa; confirmed by his Instagram post. The shooting was supposed to begin in spring this year, but it’s postponed, we guess, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Ana Lily Amirpour also confirmed her involvement with the project with an Instagram post last year. The Iranian-American filmmaker made her debut with the successful film, ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’ in 2014. She has worked with Momoa before in her second film, The Bad Batch; which also starred Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey.
Ana Lily had said some interesting things about the movie. “We are setting out to create a thrill ride on the mountain which taps into the primal side of an action movie, where you see what a person is capable of doing to survive in the most extreme situations, pushed to the limits. Add to that a high-stakes espionage and a badass female mountain climber as the lead and it becomes a truly epic reinvention of what made the original Cliffhanger movie so fun and so thrilling.”
The description really sounds like something to “hold on” to. We feel certain that Jason Momoa would fit right in with the rugged, sharp adventures of the film. It’s perfectly in line with other amazing things lined up for Momoa such as Aquaman 2; which is on the way and set for a December 2022 release. And a rumored role in Spider-Man. Keep going Jason, is all we have to say!
