Warning: spoilers for all seasons of Game Of Thrones ahead
It is time to say farewell to one of the brightest stars we’ve known for the last few years. Appearing in Game Of Thrones, Aquaman and Frontier, he has graced our screens as part of some of most favourite performances. We’re of course talking about Jason Momoa’s beard.
The actor has posted a video to YouTube showing the moment he takes a razor to his chin and puts an end to years of iconic beard-wearing. You can almost hear the hearts of a thousand Jason Momoa fans breaking as he shouts, ‘goodbye Drogo!’
Wandering the desert while wearing some pretty fetching stripey trews, Momoa reveals the last time he shaved was all the way back in 2012. He then proceeds to expertly get rid of his beard without a mirror. Obviously Jason Momoa doesn’t need a mirror.
For those unaware of the significance of Momoa’s decision, Khal Drogo is the character Momoa played in Game Of Thrones season until he was killed off in the first season. However, fans are convinced the former leader of the Dothraki will be back for the season 8 after Momoa made an appearance at the premiere party.
If the rumours are true, fear not – Momoa will have already shot the scenes and so Drogo’s beard would be intact. The same can’t be said for Aquaman however, as the sequel to the first movie has just been announced for 2022.
At least he has a long time to grow back it back.
Momoa actually had a very good reason for shaving his beard and posting it on the internet, as he’s trying to encourage more people to stop using single-use plastic bottles. ‘I just want to do this to bring awareness – plastics are killing our planet,’ he tells the camera.
As he says, the actor is not here just to ‘bitch’ about the problem, but also to present a solution and has launched a range of waters that come in a recyclable aluminium can.
‘About 75% of aluminium that’s ever been used is still in circulation today,’ Momoa explains, proving he’s done his homework.
‘It’s 100% recyclable so you drink the can and then in about 60 days it’ll be back.’
Taking a sip of his new planet-friendly water, the actor says, ‘it’s just water, but I feel good about it.’
Us too, Aquaman, us too. Though we think we’d like the beard back soon, please.
