It’s hard to believe now that Jason Momoa — the former Khal Drogo and current Aquaman actor — was once too broke fly home from the set of Game of Thrones, way back in the days of season 1. So he reveals in a recent Instagram post:

While filming GOT we had a lil break We were to broke to fly home so we rented a panel van aka UHAUL in Belfast and drove around beautiful amazing IRELAND searching for the greatest pint of Guinness. Turns out it’s perfect everywhere. So many wonderful people and stories I treasure those times It was the simplest moments I remember the most.

It sounds like Momoa is currently on location filming his part on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune film. Combine feelings of homesickness with nostalgia brought on by the series finale of Game of Thrones, and you get this.

That said, Momoa wasn’t feeling nostalgic immediately after watching the series finale, and had a particularly strong, NSFW reaction to Jon killing Daenerys:

Back to the Instagram post, Momoa’s Dune costar Josh Brolin dropped in with some wisdom. “Those desperate moments of past always, like coal to diamonds, turn with the precious present via hindsight.” Very profound, Thanos.

Looking forward to Dune, Brolin is playing Gurney Halleck, who drops plentiful nuggets of wisdom on young Paul Atreides while training him to fight, so maybe Brolin is just staying in character. Momoa is playing Duncan Idaho, the loyal swordsmaster of House Atreides and a close friend of Hallack’s. We’ll probably hear about the road trip these two took together during their time-off from Dune in about a decade.

Dune is set to hit theaters in November 2020.
