Game Of Thrones star Joe Dempsie has teased how the ending of season eight might not pan out entirely as we’re expecting, but will be enjoyed ‘on reflection’.

The 30-year-old actor could be in for his biggest season yet on the show, with Gendry returning with a Baratheon bloodline which could see him revive an entire house and gun for the Iron Throne.

But will anyone actually be sat upon the throne at the show’s end? Joe Dempsie has teased how the climax will prove an exciting proposition.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Joe said: ‘I’ve not envied [showrunners] David Benioff and Dan Weiss the task of having to find a way to bring this phenomenon to a conclusion that is both satisfying for the majority of the fans but also unpredictable.’

He added: ‘I’m sure David and Dan don’t pay too much attention to people’s theories and speculation there is all over the internet, but it would be a bit of an anti-climax if a well popularised theory turned out to be the way it ended.

‘There’s many pitfalls and I think they really have achieved that with this. It’s an ending I don’t think many people will be expecting and I think, on reflection, people will really, really enjoy.

‘That’s if I know the ending at all,’ he teased.

Dempsie also reassured fans concerned the show would be wrapped up in a hasty manner considering there’s only six episodes left, saying how the quality over quantity mantra should be celebrated.

‘I think it’s a really bold move of David and Dan to announce season seven and eight were going to be truncated. I think as an audience of TV shows in recent years, we’re actually used to shows being the opposite and really padding something out and milking it for all its worth.

‘Although I completely understand fans are disappointed that there isn’t going to be as many episodes, I think it should actually be reassuring that you have two showrunners that have decided this is the amount of story we have left to tell.

‘You can either tell it really well and in a really exciting way over six episodes or if you really wanted we could pad it out over ten and it wouldn’t be anywhere near as good. So I think quality trumps quantity, and I hope that’s what ends up being the case.’

Dempsie also recently opened up about his role on Deep State, why he’s had the ‘perfect arc’ on Game Of Thrones and dealing with fame post-Skins.

Game Of Thrones is set to return in 2019.
