HBO has long spoken about delving farther into the Martinverse, even before the original series concluded, so the concept of Game of Thrones spinoff shows is not new. Nevertheless, very few of them have actually been implemented, and a few more were canceled at various times.

Fans have been waiting for long to see their favorite characters again in a sequel show. John Bradley recently talked about his character Samwell Tarly’s return in one of them.

John Bradley gradually grew out of his Samwell Tarly persona

With Kit Harington’s Jon Snow sequel in the works, many would assume that his best friend Sam returns to the fray as well. However, Bradley doesn’t believe he can don the cape once again. He told Cherwell,

“I was thinking about this the other day, actually, I don’t think I could play him anymore. It’s weird. The sort of, you know, I’ve spoken before about what was happening in my life immediately before Game of Thrones. And I think as Sam grew, I was growing as well as a person as I was playing in my private life.”

If Sam returns, he will be vastly different

Though largely apprehensive, Bradley did ponder upon the possibility of his return as Samwell Tarly.

If he does, he explains, “So the Sam that ended the season wasn’t the Sam that started at the beginning of the series, and I wasn’t the same person either. So if I did play him now, I could probably play him, but it wouldn’t be the Samwell that everybody knows, because he’ll have moved on, as we all have. Whether I’ve got the sort of will to do that, I’m not quite sure. But some things are just best left alone.”
