The Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention went down this past weekend in Los Angeles, and cast members from both the original series and spinoff House of the Dragon were there to represent. Kit Harington (Jon Snow) attended, and a lot of fans had the same question on their minds: will we get an update on the Jon Snow sequel series?
While Harington may not have given fans any sort of official announcement about the Jon Snow spinoff currently in development at HBO, he did muse on the future of Jon Snow after Game of Thrones.
Kit Harington wants to make a Game of Thrones sequel show about Jon Snow
“I think if you asked him, he would’ve felt he got off lightly,” Harington said during a panel on Sunday night, according to Entertainment Weekly. “At the end of the show when we find him in that cell, he’s preparing to be beheaded and he wants to be. He’s done. The fact he goes to the Wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse.”
He’s gotta go back up to the place with all this history and live out his life thinking about how he killed Dany, and live out his life thinking about Ygritte dying in his arms, and live out his life thinking about how he hung Olly, and live out his life thinking about all of this trauma, and that…that’s interesting.
So I think where we leave him at the end of the show, there’s always this feeling of like… I think we wanted some kind of little smile that things are okay. He’s not okay.
George R.R. Martin revealed earlier this year that it was Kit Harington himself who had idea for a sequel series centered around Jon Snow, so Harington’s thoughts about Jon’s state of mind will likely translate directly over into the series, should HBO decide to make it.
Though Harington did share these ideas about Snow’s mental state, he couldn’t give any details on the spinoff. EW notes that both panel moderators Jason Concepcion and Greta Johnsen steered clear of the topic, as did the audience members chosen to ask questions of Kit.
That said, we didn’t learn anything specific about the Jon Snow show, although we did an update on one key character.
Kit Harington tries very hard not to talk about Ghost being in the Jon Snow spinoff
Ever since the Jon Snow spinoff series was announced, fans have assumed that Jon’s direwolf Ghost would be a part of it.
Ghost was a bigger part of George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series than Game of Thrones. One fan asked Harington why Jon and Ghost parted ways in the original series. Harington explained that the direwolves were “really difficult to film,” and that ultimately they “were costing more than they could give in Game of Thrones, the show.”
I do think Ghost has a place in… I mean, he’s brilliant in the books. And he’s such an interesting dynamic, those wolves are with the kids. I think he, you know… I think there’s… I don’t know where I’m going with that. I’m just saying they are very difficult to film.
Does it sound to anyone else like Harington came close to commenting on Ghost having a place in the Snow spinoff? If the new show doesn’t have any dragons in it, maybe there will be money for lots of direwolf action. Hopefully we’ll get some confirmation from HBO or Harington about the series soon.
