Kit Harington is keeping his sword well and truly holstered as he’s given a glowing review of Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon

The prequel, starring Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke, debuted in August and has left fans gripped as they finally discover the events which happened 200 years before the original series.

House of the Dragon reunites fans of the fantasy franchise with the Targaryen family but introduces new characters who fought each other for a seat on the Iron Throne long before Daenerys arrived on the scene.

Harington famously played Jon Snow in Game of Thrones and has confirmed that he’s been keeping up to date with the House of the Dragon action.

‘I’m really enjoying it,’ he recently revealed, throwing his support behind the spin-off.

‘My friend Miguel [Sapochnik] show-runs it, so I’m really enjoying it. I think they’ve done a fantastic job.’

The actor added how impressed he’s been by the show’s knack of giving viewers nostalgia for George R R Martin’s tales, while also making it feel like a new story.

‘It’s a weird one to start a whole new show in the same kind of realm and to make it its own thing. I think that they’ve really done that,’ the Eternals actor told Entertainment Tonight Canada.

Harington, 35, could soon be rejoining the Game of Thrones universe after it was revealed that he’s pitched a spin-off about his own character, Snow, which is now in the works.

In June, GoT author Martin teased in a blog post: ‘Our working title for the show is SNOW,’ he wrote in a blog post on his official website. ‘There’s not much more I can tell you, not until HBO gives me a green light.

‘It seems as though Emilia Clarke has already mentioned that SNOW was Kit’s idea in a recent interview. So that part is out. Yes, it was Kit Harrington who brought the idea to us.

‘I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet… but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific.’

Details about the new series are scarce, but there have already been various hints in House of the Dragon that fans have speculated could be pointing towards the plot of the Harington-lead spin-off.

In a trailer for House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra was seen reciting a line from the prophecy, which read: ‘From my blood come the prince that was promised and his will be the song of ice and fire.’

During Game of Thrones, the stipulations of the prophecy prompted many to assume it was about Jon, given he turned out to be the child of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, the personification of a union of ice and fire.

However, the identity of the ‘prince that was promised’ wasn’t actually confirmed by the end of Game of Thrones, which is why some believe the question may finally be answered in a Jon Snow spin-off.

House of the Dragon is available to watch on Sky and Now TV.
