In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Matthew Needham spoke about his character’s scenes being reduced in Season 1. He mentioned the difficulty of including a lot of scenes in a show with a limited timeframe. He also spoke about what he looked forward to in Season 2 from his character. When asked about people perceiving his character as a villain, Needham said:

‘I understand why fans think that. He hasn’t shown many redeeming qualities. I don’t believe anyone is just a “villain,” and I wanted this season to flesh him out more, to show different sides to him. Some scenes in the first season didn’t make it, understandably,’

‘They’re trying to condense a 30-year time frame. But this season, I wanted to show more of his complexity.’

Needham revealed the cut scenes would have shown Larys being abused and ridiculed, offering viewers a better understanding of his challenges.

“Yeah there were things we filmed. I mean, there were scenes where you sort of see him being abused and made fun of, and you sort of get a sense of what he was up against by the world and I which sort of explains, I think, his sort of… world view and his relationship with his brother. But, you know, I get why, you know, you’ve got like 60 minutes or whatever. But it’s nice to sort of just play with that a little bit more in this season.”

Larys Strong is set to become the Master of Whisperers to King Aegon II and the Greens. House of the Dragon Season 2 will premiere on June 16 on HBO and Max.
