Life works in mysterious ways. The moment you think its all over, you get another lease of opportunity. Something similar happened with Gemma Whelan a.k.a. Yara Greyjoy of Game of Thrones fame. Whelan recently spoke in great detail with the metro about how she went on to get the role of Yara Greyjoy. Read on to find out more!
As per Metro, Whelan really botched up her audition of Doc Martin which somehow resulted in her getting the dream role. She said that if she had got the role in Doc Martin, she would have never got to play Yara Greyjoy.
She said:
âEven in times when I thought that was âmyâ role, and I wanted it so badly, if I got it, I wouldnât have been able to do Game of Thrones.â
She believes that her experience goes to show that everything works out in the end.
âSo, it sort of goes to show [things work out].â
She then revealed that she had auditioned for the role of Morwenna in Doc Martin but she messed up her third audition and the role then went to Jess Ransom.
âIt was Doc Martin for the receptionist [Morwenna], which my lovely friend Jess Ransom got, whoâs brilliant. I just really stuffed up the third audition,â she said of one of the roles that didnât work out.â
She added:
âMy third recall I just got it completely wrong, âI wanted it so desperately. And by some really weird twist of fate, I found out from Jess, that it had gone her way.â
However, she was relieved and grateful for the role of Yara Greyjoy.
âI felt âOh my God, that was the one that got awayâ⊠and then I got Game of Thrones. If I had got that [Doc Martin] it would have been very difficult if not impossible to make that work,â Gemma concluded. âThings work out so itâs just trusting it.â
Well, folks, thatâs how it goes. You lose some and win some. Whelan certainly won and made a name for herself through one of the greatest stories ever told. Not only that, Whelan can also be seen in recently released season of Killing Eve. She was certainly excited while going through the twists of the show.
