Line of Duty
Martin Compston gave fans the best possible Christmas present, revealing just a few days ago that filming had finished on the fifth BBC series. He’ll be joined again by Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar in the crack AC-12 anti-corruption unit, two years on from the hunt for balaclava man. Stephen Graham is a new face set to face TV’s most gripping interviews as the hunt for the network of corrupt cops expands.
Killing Eve
The BBC America series delivered shocks aplenty over the eight episodes, right up to assassin Villanelle’s stabbing by Sandra Oh’s Eve in the finale. In teaser pictures for the new series, Jodie Cromer’s killer is seen bloodied but not bowed. Like Line of Duty, filming finished earlier this month so we’ll see it soon. Expect more of the dark deeds and black humour that made it the second-biggest boxset ever on BBC iPlayer.
The Crown
It’s the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace as the third series of the Netflix hit returns. Claire Foy and Matt Smith have bowed out and Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies take over as the Queen and Prince Phillip with Helena Bonham Carter, joining the cast as Princess Margaret. They’ll take us through from 1964 to 1976 in this and the fourth series.
Carnival Row
Orlando Bloom becomes the latest movie star to switch to TV is this new big-budget drama, made by Amazon Prime. He plays a police officer investigating murder of a showgirl in a neo-Victorian city inhabited by mythical creatures fleeing their war-torn homeland. It’s a fantasy noir series in which Bloom is joined by supermodel-turned-actress Cara Delevinge, playing a refugee facing prejudice.
Game of Thrones
Ever since it hit screens back in 2011, the epic HBO fantasy-drama from the novels of George RR Martin has had millions gripped all over the world. They’ll finally – and doubtless sadly – wave goodbye to Westeros this April. Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams and Lena Headey will all return. There will be just six episodes to savour with insiders teasing some shocks.
Curfew
Sky One are revving up the excitement factor for the new year with this London-set street racing drama. A group of amateur drivers gather for an illegal night-time race with the country run by a totalitarian government. There’s an all-star cast headed by Sean Bean, Billy Zane, Miranda Richardson and Adrian Lester. Souped-up cars and monster trucks will be roaring on to our screens from February.
