Spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder follow.

While Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home both featured a blitz of starry cameos, Thor: Love and Thunder didn’t follow the same way.

Taika Waititi’s follow-up to Thor: Ragnarok originally featured a slew of cameos from characters old and new, with Jeff Goldblum set to reprise his role as the Grandmaster from Ragnarok. Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey had also filmed scenes for the fourth Thor flick; all were cut from the final film.

Waititi told Insider why: “I wrote the thing so when you cut anything, it’s a little bit of a challenge to yourself because you’re like, ‘Am I not that good? Should I have seen this coming?’ But every film I’ve done, I’ve probably cut the same amount out.

“When you go into the edit you just never know. A scene on its own could be the most funniest thing or intriguing thing, but sometimes those things if you keep them in will just make the movie screech to a halt. So you have to do what’s best for the film.”

The director continued: “And if you ask any of those actors who were cut out — Jeff Goldblum, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage — they all understand how it works. They have been in the game long enough. But that’s just the way I look at things.”

Dinklage was set to reprise his role as Eitri, the dwarf who helped Thor forge Stormbreaker in Avengers: Infinity War. Meanwhile, Goldblum was supposed to return as the Grandmaster, the hilarious dictator of Sakaar who is actually an Elder of the Universe and the brother to Benicio Del Toro’s The Collector (who appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: The Dark World, and Infinity War).

It is currently unknown who Headey would have appeared as. Some fans believe they all would have been killed by Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, but that is unconfirmed. And, it may never be confirmed as Waititi refuses to show the Love and Thunder deleted scenes.

“I’m not going to give you a moment because this is my way of telling you, like, people say, ‘I can’t wait for the deleted scenes with those actors.’ I don’t want people to see the deleted scenes because they’re deleted for a reason; they aren’t good enough. The scenes were not in the movie, and that’s it.”

Thor: Love and Thunder has a release date of July 7 in the UK and July 8 in the US. The other three Thor movies are available to stream now on Disney+.
