With the end of Game of Thrones drawing near, it’s safe to assume every GoT fan out there is a little anxious and eager to find out the fate of their favorite characters once the “epic battle” ends. So you can imagine how devastated fans were when Maisie Williams joked that her role in the new season is short-lived during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon—and she got us good.
After reminiscing about Arya Stark’s defining moments on the show, Fallon asked the actress if she could offer up any spoilers about the new season. “I’ve decided to just keep a tight lip on everything. HBO sent out a lot of memos recently about just saying nothing, so there’s really nothing that I can say, they would absolutely kill me,” she said.
Fallon kept pushing Williams to give up details, to which she responded, “I don’t know, like during shooting, like, the final days were really, like, emotional, saying goodbye to all of the cast, because when I found out that Arya died in like the second episode, I was…” She immediately covered her mouth and looked towards the audience who were gasping (and laughing) at Williams’s slip up. Williams and Fallon attempted to carry on with the show, but Maisie abruptly ran off stage with Fallon trailing behind her before the duo turned around and yelled “April Fools.”
Whew. Somebody give Maisie Williams all the awards for that dramatic prank because that would’ve been a real heartbreaker. But was Maisie Williams actually joking or preparing us? We won’t find out until the final season of Game of Thrones, which begins on April 14 on HBO.
