Game of Thrones was the biggest TV show franchise of the 20th century. It was an emotional journey for both the cast and the fans, who were hooked on the show for nearly a decade. Although there have been mixed reactions from the members of the cast and the fans, alike, it is still a matter of debate on online forums. Moving on from the show has been a difficult time for the actors, especially those who grew up with it, like Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams. She describes the experience as rediscovering herself, exploring the extent of her skills, and in the process being born again as a completely new actor.

In a recent interview with the GQ magazine, Williams talked about how she looked for a different role after Game of Thrones. She recalled, “I was rejecting a lot of the pieces of me and my image that I’d been so well known for. But it wasn’t a crisis moment. It was more that I needed to express myself.”

She also said that the changes were both personally and professionally motivated, to allow those who may have typecast her to see that she’d changed. “I think that sometimes other people need a helping hand to see that you’re a different person,” she stated, “and I don’t resent that. I quickly realized that it was more linked to the shame of being in one good thing and never doing anything again, rather than actually asking myself the question: what do you want to do now?”

Williams will now be seen in the upcoming biopic Pistol, where she plays fashion icon, Pamela Rooke. Are you excited to see Maisie Williams’ new avatar? Talk to us in the comments below!
