Maisie Williams denies leaking Game of Thrones season eight release date

Bad news everybody… Maisie Williams has denied leaking the release date for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

The rumours that the new series was set to be released in April are sadly not true, as the 20-year-old actress claims she never said this.

How long are we going to have to wait? Feels like winter will have come and gone and will be back around before fans even get a date as to when the show will next air.

Earlier this month, HBO spoke out to say the immense production scale for the final episodes won’t make it possible for Game of Thrones to be out this year.

But we did get a glimmer of hope when Maisie, who has played Arya Stark since the show began in 2011,  apparently said: ‘We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April [2019].

‘There’s a lot that goes into the final edit. You would not want to rush this season at all. We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities.’

However, taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning, the star denied claims that she has said this, and believes it to be a quote taken from an interview that happened way back.

She wrote: ‘Just a little tweet letting you know this games of thrones release date “quote” I’ve supposedly given is completely false and was taken from and interview I did years ago.’

There’s still hope it will be out earlier than we think, though.

Season eight is still set to hit screens in 2019, making it the biggest wait between episodes we’ve seen since the drama began.

The final season will be directed by David Benioff, DB Weiss, David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik, and executive-produced by the GOT author George RR Martin.

They have revealed that multiple endings will be filmed to stop spoilers from being leaked.
