Beyonce spoke the immortal words ‘Who Run The World? Girls’ – and it seems that this is certainly the case in Westeros.

Maisie Williams has praised the show for its female empowerment and has promised that as the show comes to an end this year, that women will come out on top.

Speaking to Elle Magazine, she said: ‘For me, Game of Thrones is a medieval world in which women don’t have a lot of rights yet they still prevail.

‘But I do think that as the seasons have gone on, it’s become more and more amazing for women. And this final season is going to be incredible.’

Playing Arya Stark, who has been on a quest to avenge her family thanks to her sword Needle and her kill list, Game of Thrones has proven to not be short of powerful women.

Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner, has been through some horrific moments during her time on the show, and has turned from a dainty waif-like character wishing to be a princess to a cold and strong leader in her own right.

Then there’s of course, the Mother of Dragons Daenerys, who has been planning her rule of the seven kingdoms for quite some time.

Even Cersei Lannister, who has proven to be cold-hearted in her quest for power, has come back fighting after being literally stripped of all she cares about (even physically walking through the streets in shame naked).

‘It just feels great, being on set with all these girls. They’re all ruling, you know, they’re all back on top – it’s pretty impressive,’ she added.

As the final season nears, we have been promised one of the best seasons yet – with Peter Dinklage saying at the Emmys it would be the ‘greatest TV season ever’.

When asked what fans can expect about the upcoming episodes, he simply said: ‘It’s going to be the greatest season of television you’ve ever seen. It’s true!’

In his acceptance speech, Peter thanked his Game of Thrones castmates as ‘the most talented amazing people I know besides my wife, Erica.’

He then admitted that he had previously forgotten to thank her during a speech, and praised her for ‘putting up with him’.

The star also made a special mention of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, calling him his ‘brother from another mother’.

Speaking to the actor, who plays Jamie Lannister on the show, he said: ‘I love you and I share this with you, because you’re an amazing, handsome, brother. ‘

He later had to tell everyone that that wasn’t a spoiler for the upcoming season – it was just a nice compliment
