Maisie Williams shuts down rumours of an alternate ending (Picture: HBO)

Maisie Williams has shut down rumours that an alternate ending was shot for the final season of Game of Thrones.

Maisie played Arya Stark in HBO’s long-running, high-fantasy epic, which caused controversy amongst fans and critics for its eigth and final run for its ending and handling of its established characters.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk on the red carpet for the Sky Up Next showcase, Maisie quashed speculation that bosses had filmed multiple endings to the show whilst it was still in production.

‘We didn’t [film an alternate ending],’ she revealed to us. ‘It costs so much money and the schedule was way too tight. We were spending all the money on dragons.’

And it seems the actress is acutely aware of the fan backlash against series eight too.

‘I think people wish we did,’ she chuckled. ‘But..we didn’t! So, that’s your lot!’

Cheers, Maisie! We’ll tell all the forums for you.

The 22-year-old is also preparing to make her return to the small-screen, starring in the comedy-drama Two Weeks To Live, alongside Fleabag’s Sian Clifford.

And it appears that Maisie’s new role is a welcome change of pace from Thrones. You know what they say; new decade, new year, new you!

‘I’m very excited to jump into something that was kind of the polar opposite of Game of Thrones,’ she teased. ‘And I had the best time doing it. They are very different shows.’

Just because Thrones has ended, however, that doesn’t mean that its passionate fans have stopped thinking about the show – they’re still combing through the plot holes.

In fact, they’ve already picked up one concerning dragonglass that could have really helped in the battle against the Night King.

It’s also been announced that one of Maisie’s cast mates will be joining fellow cult favourite Doctor Who for an epic two-part finale.

Two Weeks To Lives comes to Sky this year. Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available to stream on NOWTV.
