My name is Alec Steele and I am a 19 year old blacksmith from Norfolk in the United Kingdom. I upload a vlog from my day at the workshop almost every single day. Lots of sparks, lots of making, lots of fantastic-ness. Great to have you here following along!

What do I make? LOTS of Damascus steel, knives, swords, axes and more and of course, I always love hearing your suggestions for future projects in the comments below!

  1. In the pipefitter's trade the technical term for "looking down the length of the thing to figure out the wiggle" is "eyeballing". It's probably hard for a person with no depth perception…

  2. IT's called "scorcio" in italian…
    foreshorten
    fɔːˈʃɔːt(ə)n/Submit
    verb
    gerund or present participle: foreshortening
portray or show (an object or view) as closer than it really is or as having less depth or distance, as an effect of perspective or the angle of vision.

  4. Love your videos, keep up the good work, btw I'm from Texas and that guard was looking a lot like a University of Texas Longhorns symbol lol, keep up the awesome work, and I'll keep watching!

  5. Something ive been wondering. Mind you I'm no expert but i know metal pretty well and swords and what not but the indention/blood groove i like to call it, goes into the tang and I was wondering if Alec or anyone else could explain why and if that is a normal thing or just an Alec thing? Also wouldn't that cause blood or water into the guard and handle and then make rust?

  6. Would love to see if you could forge a decent (usable) Damascus plastering trowel. I'm a plasterer in Norfolk and would gladly test it for you 😉 love the videos and keep up the awesome work 🖒

  7. ALEC, next sword up… A Knights Templar Crusader Sword. Another long sword to practice on. Maybe make dies forbthe press for the fuller or a spring loaded hardy tool and do it by hand? Forged fuller S add strength. Ground ones can reduce strength via cutting the metal grain. Just a thought but a Templar sword maybe with matching dagger would be great additions to your armory. Loving 99% of the content. But hey, you're still learning and far past any skills I have.
