What would you do to the person who spoiled Avengers: Endgame for you? Would you resort to violence like the 33-year-old Justin Gregory Surface, a Domino’s Pizza employee in Friendswood, Texas? Because that happened.
According to NBC News, Surface punched his 24-year-old coworker in the chest after the latter let slip “a major plot development” about the movie’s ending. What worse is that the police officer who was reading the incident report got spoiled too! Surface was smacked with a misdemeanor assault citation, which could cost him up to $500.
So what have we learned here? You decide.
And that’s not even the best Avengers: Endgame spoiler revenge story we’ve heard today. The A.V. Club drew our attention to Redditor u/Jus10Sch, who posted an elaborate and sordid tale of revenge and friendship lost over, all because of the scourge of spoilers. Read all about it below, but beware SPOILERS FOR ENDGAME! It seems only appropriate to note that, given the circumstances.
So this Redditor had a random troll hop on his Instagram feed and blurt out an Infinity War spoiler. In order to get revenge, he befriended the troll, built a relationship over the course of a year, and then went to Endgame on opening night and took pictures and sent them all along together with details on the major plot points, all so his new “friend” could hurt like he hurt, lo that dark day a year ago.
If this story is true, then that is some serious long game. And also kind of disturbing.
And the lesson here is…no, it still eludes us.
