Filming on Bloodmoon, the working title for HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, is underway, and not just in Northern Ireland, where the bulk of filming on the original show was done. Earlier this week, we reported that HBO was getting ready to shoot at the at the Grotta del Turco near the town of Gaeta, Italty, a picturesque split in the rocky coastline we can imagine being the setting for all manner of beautiful scenes:

Anyway, that was more or less a rumor, but now, with Gaeta mayor Cosmo Mitrano coming out and sounding excited about the prospect of HBO being on the premises, it seems pretty solid:

We all heard him say “Bloodmoon” in an Italian accent in there, towards the beginning. That name is catching on.

This translation of Mitrano’s comments comes from Google Translate. I am sorry:

A great, great satisfaction to read the name of Gaeta as the location of a very successful international television production: Game of Thrones. After years of hard work to make this important tourism sector grow, after an exciting 2018 with several films shot and set in the city, while in Gaeta they are shooting the second season of “the brilliant friend” and a few months ago also Oscar Paolo Sorrentino chose Gaeta for some scenes of “The New Pope”, our city is ready to host the Bloodmoon prequel! Gaeta, its natural, scenic and historical beauties will be admired all over the world. Infinite joy…

Anyway, the outline that interviewed Mitrano, Gaeta News 24, estimates that filming should go down in the second week of July, and that the scene may involve a large rowboat.

Meanwhile, filming on the Bloodmoon pilot continues in Northern Ireland, in the friendly confines of Titanic Studios. Twitter account Bloodmoon_locations_IRL has some new shots of the crew at work:

So far we have weirwood trees, caves, and a scenic cove. Here’s hoping showrunner Jane Goldman knocks it out of the park.

The Show That May Be Called Bloodmoon will premiere…in the future, assuming HBO picks up the pilot.
