MGM has scored the rights to upcoming musical adaption Cyrano. Game Of Thrones star Peter Dinklage will come back to the big screen musical to reprise the title role that he played back on stage in 2019 for Off Broadway at the Daryl Roth Theatre.
The cast also includes Haley Bennett, Brian Tyree Henry and Ben Mendelsohn. Bennett is reprising the role as Roxanne, which she played alongside Dinklage at the Goodspeed Opera House’s Terris Theatre in 2018.
Darkest Hour‘s Joe Wright is set to direct. The musical was adapted from Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac. Both the screenplay and musical is written by veteran director, writer and stage actress Erica Schmidt, who is also Dinklage’s wife.
The music is by The National’s Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner, with lyrics by fellow member Matt Berninger and Carin Besser, who has contributed to many of the band’s songs. They most recently produced Taylor Swift’s Folklore album.
The release date nor the production date have not been revealed yet, though with these cast announcements out now, more info is soon to follow.
Wright just completed Amy Adam’s film The Woman In The Window, currently moving from Disney to Netflix.
Bennett most recently starred in IFC’s Swallow and later this year she stars in The Devil All The Time alongside Robert Pattinson, Bill Skarsgard, and Tom Holland and in Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy with Amy Adams and Glenn Close.
MGM has a lot on its plate, with recent projects in the works including Ridley Scott’s true-crime drama Gucci, an Andy Weir space drama starring Ryan Gosling, and also recently acquired Paul Thomas Anderson‘s next coming-of-age movie from Focus Features.
