Set to be released in the US this year, we see former heavyweight boxing world champion Tyson play an ex-military man, who is tasked with protecting a group of Egyptian refugees.
His on-screen rival is played by Icelandic strongman Hafthor Bjornsson aka The Mountain – who is part of a group of evil mercenaries.
We start the trailer with Tyson’s character Rick, trying his best to keep a group of civilians calm. He says: “Don’t be afraid, the bombs are far away, you’ll be safe here.”
Spoiler: They were not safe.
Instead, Bjornsson – who plays Frank – turns up, hoping to take the refugees from him by force.
In the hope of persuading Frank to do the right thing, Rick diplomatically says: “They have nothing to do with this, they’re just innocent people.”
We then see a load of action-packed scenes, with Mike fighting off various heavies in different war-torn landscapes.
Bjornsson goes on to fight a variety of other dodgy figures, including Mike’s character.
The trailer alludes to a past between the two.
While it might not be a cinematic masterpiece, it looks like the film is exactly what you’d expect when you get a boxer and a strongman together – loads of fun.
There’s all the usual action film features – you’ve got your exploding cars, your lengthy combat scenes and of course, loads of death and destruction along the way.
The former ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ received plenty of plaudits for his role in The Hangover movies when he produced one of the most iconic scenes ever by punching Zach Galifianakis’ character Alan in the face.
It may not be likely to win loads of awards, but it might be just what we need to pull us through 2021.
And you have to give Tyson his dues – not only is he entering the film industry now, but he’s also juggling that with his boxing comeback, podcasting and running a hugely-popular marijuana company in the US.
As for Desert Strike, the movie itself is set for release in US cinemas sometime in mid-2021.
The film – titled Pharaoh’s War overseas – is directed by Egyptian filmmaker Raouf Abd El Aziz and was originally released in Egypt in summer 2019.
