Chaos isn’t a pit, it’s a ladder.
Game of Thrones fans will remember well the lesson that Lord Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish ( Aidan Gillen ) taught Sansa Stark ( Sophie Turner ) back in season 3 of the HBO fantasy drama, and he later found out that she learnt well from his scheming ways.
However, one theory is suggesting that Sansa Stark actually plotted the downfall of her adoptive brother Jon Snow ( Kit Harington ) in the final season.
In the fourth episode of season 8, entitled The Last of the Starks, Jon confesses his true identity to his Stark siblings: he is Prince Aegon Targaryen, the son of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.
Jon swears all of the Stark siblings to secrecy, including Sansa, however, we later see the Lady of Winterfell tell Tyrion the secret of Jon’s lineage.
It was the exposure of this secret that Jon’s beloved (aunt) Daenerys Targaryen feared, as it meant he could pose a threat as a rival claimant to her throne and Sansa would much rather install him on the Iron Throne than her.
However, when Jon is eventually forced to kill Daenerys after she obliterated King’s Landing, it is eventually settled that the former King in the North be banished to the Wall than be executed or return to Winterfell.
Sansa apologises for betraying Jon in the final episode, but he harbours no ill will as he thought she was protecting his interests.
It can’t be argued, however, that while Jon was banished, Sansa came out on top as Queen of the North.
A role she had always wanted, Sansa had chafed at Jon’s position in season 7 and openly disagreed with him in front of his subjects when he made decisions for the North that she disagreed with; namely bending the knee to Daenerys.
So could the telling of Tyrion the secret of Jon’s lineage just have been a chance to create some chaos and climb the ladder?
We’ll leave you to ponder.
