Game of Thrones will be back for its final season in 2019, but that doesn’t mean the end of the George RR Martin action.
There’s going to be a prequel to the whole thing, called The Long Night, and starring Oscar nominee Naomi Watts.
Martin said of the announcement today on his blog: ‘‘I could not be more excited. Welcome to Westeros, Naomi.’
Here’s everything you need to know about the new cast member.
Naomi was born on 28 September 1968 in Shoreham, Kent, making her 50 years old at present.
After her father – who was a sound engineer for Pink Floyd – passed away, her family moved to Anglesey in Wales, then to Suffolk, and later to New South Wales in Australia.
It was there she made friends with Nicole Kidman and found acting fame, most notably appearing as Julie Gibson in Home and Away
Through Kidman she met various directors and had parts in critically acclaimed indie films such as Flirting and Gross Misconduct.
Watts’ major breakthrough came in 1999, however, when David Lynch cast her in Mulholland Drive.
She continued to have success, her performance opposite Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro in 2003 drama 21 Grams earned Watts an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Some of her most popular films include King Kong, Birdman, and The Impossible.
Watts was in a relationship with Heath Ledger from 2002 to 2004.
The year after they ended their relationship, she announced she was in a relationship with actor Liev Schreiber, and they went on to have two sons together.
The pair announced their separation after 11 years in 2016.
