Game of Thrones Season 8 is coming in the first half of 2019 but what happens once the series ends once and for all? Next-in-line will be a Game of Thrones spinoff show whose pilot has already been ordered to be filmed in February next year. And, the great news is that we’ve just got an update on who will play the lead in the same. And, she will be none other than the very talented Naomi Watts! Read on.

A rumor at first, the news was in the air around the second week of October and now has been confirmed by the Variety. According to them, much isn’t known about the character being played by Watts but that it is of “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.” And, this is the same prequel series being developed by George RR Martin and Jane Goldman.

The synopsis of the new series reads:

“Taking place thousands of years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ the series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”

Moreover, George also shared this update on his blog and wrote:

Jane Goldman scripted the LONG NIGHT pilot and will be running the show. She and her team are busy in London right now, neck deep in casting, and I expect some more names will be announced soon.”

You may know Naomi Watts for portraying the role ofAnn Darrowin the movie King Kong (2005)or Maria inthe Impossible (2012). I would love to watch her play a noble lady of House Targaryen from Valyria – from the times before the rise of ‘Aegon the Conqueror’.
