Natalie Dormer has split from her long-term fiancé Anthony Byrne after 11 years of dating.
The Game of Thrones star reportedly parted ways with the Irish film director over the summer, shortly after admitting co-writing 2018 thriller In Darkness together had sparked ‘massive arguments’.
Though Natalie is usually intensely private about her personal life, the 36-year-old actress appeared to confirm the break-up news in her latest interview with the New Statesman.
The publication writes: ‘This year, she moved into filmmaking with the aforementioned In Darkness, a thriller that she produced and co-wrote with her former partner of 11 years, the film’s director Anthony Byrne.
‘The two met on the set of The Tudors; they’ve parted ways since promoting the film this summer.’
Metro.co.uk has contacted Natalie’s representatives for comment.
Natalie and Anthony became engaged in 2011 after Anthony proposed to the actress on a boat in India, but were yet to set a date for the wedding.
The couple admitted working together on In Darkness – which sees Natalie play the role of a blind pianist alongside Emily Ratajkowski and Ed Skrein – had caused fractions in their relationship, with their work life becoming so fraught the pair were unable to work together in the same room.
‘Couples say terrible things to each other that you would never say to your best friend. We learned very quickly that we couldn’t write in the same room,’ Natalie told You magazine earlier this year.
‘Doors got slammed at various points and I wouldn’t necessarily rush into writing with Anthony again.’
Meanwhile, Anthony, who has also worked on Peaky Blinders and Ripper Street, told the Hollywood Reporter a similar tale in May, opening up about the stress of working with his partner and revealing ‘massive arguments’ took place on a regular basis.
‘We’ve since discovered that what we were doing was completely the wrong way to write together,’ the 43-year-old explained.
‘Because we didn’t have an office or anything, we were in our own home writing, and then it would all kick off because we would disagree about something fundamentally or I would be a pain in the arse and I would challenge Nat, or myself.
‘It’s very easy to go, “Oh, don’t worry about that, it’s going to be fine”, and you have to police that and in doing so you end up being the bad guy and end up having massive arguments.’
Big sad face.
