Natalie Dormer has revealed that she welcomed her first child with her partner David Oakes in January this year.
The Game of Thrones star didn’t publicly announce the pregnancy or birth, but has now explained that she has a baby daughter, who has changed the way she sees the world.
‘It’s the perfect thing to do during a pandemic, is get pregnant and have a baby,’ she joked. ‘I feel like I’m probably being a bit of a cliche. She’ll probably be sitting in a bar in 30 years’ time on a date going, “Yeah, I’m a Covid baby!”
‘I think there’s going to be lots of Covid babies, because what else can you do?’
‘She’s 12 weeks, she’s just three months,’ the 39-year-old explained to Dame Esther Rantzen and Adrian Mills on the That’s After Life! podcast. ‘She’s an absolute joy – I’m never going to complain about shooting hours ever again because the sleep deprivation is something else.’
Natalie went on to say that she ‘underestimated’ how difficult parenting was, adding that it ‘really does completely alter the lens and things that didn’t matter so much – there’s a whole new perspective to life.’
‘I’m in love. I’m absolutely in love, she’s a joy,’ the Penny Dreadful star continued.
Asked if she would find it hard parting from her little one when her next acting job comes along, she said: ‘I think I’m going to find it very difficult.’
She teased that it’s the perfect time for her to go back to her roots and return to the stage (when the theatres can open back up), as it would allow her to be with her daughter all day, as opposed to TV work.
Natalie met her partner, fellow actor David, 36, when they both performed in the play Venus in Fur in 2019.
The actress started her career on stage, but is also well known for her incredible roles across film and TV – Margaery Tyrell in Game Of Thrones, Anne Boleyn in The Tudors, and Cressida in The Hunger Games.
